Located around Bowbeat Hill on the border of the Midlothian and Scottish Borders Council Areas, the Bowbeat Hill Wind Farm lies 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Peebles. Starting operation in 2002, the farm is capable of generating a total of 31.2 megawatts (MW) of electricity from twenty-four Nordex N60 1.3 MW German turbines. The turbines stand 50m (164 feet) high, have 30-m (98-foot) long blades and rotate at between 13 and 19 revolutions per minute. The farm is run by the Natural Power Company on behalf of utilities supplier E.ON UK / Powergen (formerly the Central Electricity Generating Board).
