Vatersay Bay

(Bagh Bhatasaigh)

A significant bay on the east coast of the island of Vatersay, the most southerly inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides, Vatersay Bay (Gael: Bagh Bhatasaigh) is separated from West Bay by a narrow isthmus of sand dunes which links the northern and southern parts of the island. These sand dunes are threatened by storms, with the risk the island will become broken into two, and the local people have used wrecked boats and cars to stabilise them.

The settlement of Vatersay lies immediately to the southwest.
