Out Stack

(Oosta)

The northernmost island of the British Isles, Out Stack or 'Oosta' lies 2 miles (3 km) north of the island of Unst in the Shetland group of the Northern Isles. This rocky islet rises to 27m (88 feet) above the unforgiving waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1849 Lady Franklin landed here to pray for her husband, Sir John Franklin, who had not returned from his expedition to find the North West Passage.
