A residential district and ancient chapelry of E Dundee City, on the border of Angus Council Area, Balmossie lies around the Dighty Water between Broughty Ferry and Monifieth, adjacent to Barnhill. The chapel once stood on a crag opposite Balmossie Mill, but the ruin was razed to the ground c.1762. Suburban housing has been developed here since the 1970s and the Balmossie Halt opened to the south on the East Coast mainline railway in 1962.
