Balmossie

A residential district and ancient chapelry of E Dundee City, close to the border of Angus Council Area, Balmossie lies around the Dighty Water between Broughty Ferry and Monifieth, adjacent to Barnhill. The chapel once stood on a crag opposite Balmossie Mill, but the ruin was razed to the ground c. 1762. Suburban housing has been developed here since the 1970s and, in 2005, a development comprising a hundred large detached houses was built at Balmossie Farm, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the north, on the opposite side of the A92 Trunk Road. Balmossie Halt opened in 1962 on the East Coast Main Line railway, a half-mile (1 km) to the south southeast at the southern end of South Balmossie Street.
