Calternish


(Caltinish, Caltanish, Caltanais)

A peninsula and location on the northeast coast of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Calternish (also Caltinish and Caltanish, Gael: Caltanais) lies between Loch Carnan and Loch Sheilavaig, 14 miles (23 km) north of Lochboisdale. Craig Calternish rises to 30m (98 feet) on the coast and Strom Calternish forms a narrow rocky channel at the head of Loch Sheilavaig.
