Jerviswood

An altered L-plan tower house and small estate overlooking the Mouse Water a mile (1.5 km) north of Lanark in South Lanarkshire, Jerviswood dates from the 16th century and comprises three storeys and a garret. It also features a steeply-pitched roof. Built by the Livingstones, Jerviswood was purchased by the Baillie family in 1636, who extended the property. Robert Baillie (c.1634-84) was persecuted as a Covenanter.

Jerviswood was later converted to form accommodation for farm workers, although several of the internal features have survived. The house was restored in the 1970s, work which brought a Civic Trust commendation in 1984. It later became the home of rally driver Colin McRae (1965 - 2007).
