Lochside Theatre, Castle Douglas

Overlooking Carlingwark Loch on the south side of Castle Douglas (Dumfries and Galloway), the Lochside Theatre is located in the former St. Andrews church. The initiative of three local drama and musical groups, the 200-seat theatre opened in 1996 following more than ten years of planning and fundraising. Formerly known as the Little Theatre, which was based in an old army hut that had been condemned by the fire authority.

A registered charity, the theatre is staffed entirely by volunteers. In addition to providing a home for three companies (the Lochside Theatre Company, the Lochside Youth Theatre and the Lochside Theatre Junior Players), it is a venue for performance, cinema, conferences, lectures and meetings, with a bar and facilities for catering. The theatre is fully and professionally equipped in terms of stage, lighting and sound facilities, together with dressing rooms and a growing wardrobe department.
