Corkerhill

A small district of SW Glasgow, Corkerhill lies between the M77 motorway and Corkerhill Road, to the south of Mosspark and 3 miles (5 km) southwest of the city centre. Once a location on the Glasgow, Paisley and Johnstone Canal, Corkerhill became associated with the railway which follows the same route from Glasgow Central to Paisley Canal stations. Corkerhill remains the site of a station, sidings and engine sheds, although its signal box was demolished in the late 1970s. Public housing constructed in the 1960s gave rise to significant social problems although a process of renewal post-2000 has seen these dwellings demolished to be replaced by private homes.
