Artfield Fell Wind Farm

Artfield Fell Wind Farm is located in Wigtownshire, W Dumfries and Galloway, 3¾ miles (6 km) east northeast of New Luce and 11 miles (18 km) west northwest of Newton Stewart. Owned and operated by the Perth-based utility company Scottish and Southern Energy, the farm comprises 15 Siemens turbines, each producing 1.3 MW of power, giving total output of 19.5 MW. The blade diameter is 62m (203 feet) while the hub height is 43m (141 feet), giving an overall height for each unit of 74m (242 feet). It is reported that development costs were £16 million. Artfield Fell was officially opened by Malcolm Wicks MP, Minister for Energy, on 27th July 2005. A western extension, known as Balmurrie Fell Wind Farm, was commissioned in 2012.
