A prominent summit at the northern end of the Cairnsmore of Fleet massif extending into the Galloway Forest Park, Craignelder lies a quarter-mile (0.4 m) southwest of Millfore Hill, 2 miles (3 km) west of Loch Grannoch and a similar distance east northeast of Dallash.
