East Burra


(House Island)

An island situated to the west of the south Mainland of Shetland from which it is separated by the Clift Sound. Linked to West Burra by a road bridge, the island has an area of 515 ha (1273 acres) and rises to 81m (265 feet) at Easter Heog. The population is recorded as 92 (1961), 64 (1971), 78 (1981), 72 (1991), 66 (2001) and 76 (2011).
