Ben Cruachan

A massive granite mountain of Argyll and Bute, Ben Cruachan rises to a height of 1127m (3698 feet) 4 miles (6 km) east of Bonawe, between Loch Etive and Loch Awe. It is classified as a Munro and its summit is marked by an Ordnance Survey primary triangulation pillar installed 1948-49. The name Ben Cruachan is derived from the Gaelic for "mountain of peaks". It is of classic mountain form with four ridges culminating in a sharp peak. The main ridge running east to west is littered with boulders. Within the mountain, Cruachan Power Station pumps water between Loch Awe and the Cruachan Reservoir, which is enclosed in the southern corrie.
