Uyea

The uninhabited Shetland island of Uyea lies to the south of the much larger island of Unst from which it is separated by the Skuda Sound. The island has an area of 205 ha (507 acres) and rises to 50m (164 feet) at 'The Ward'. At the northern end of the island is a chambered cairn and on the central ridge stands 'The Hall' which was the home of Sir Basil Neven-Spence, Member of Parliament for Orkney and Shetland from 1935 to 1950. Sir Basil lies buried in an old chapel which overlooks Brei Wick - the 'broad bay'.
