Craigvinean Forest

A plantation forest covering a hill of the same name, together with several neighbouring summits, Craigvinean forms part of the Tay Forest Park and is located to the north of the Hermitage, 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Dunkeld. Purchased from the Atholl Estates by the Forestry Commission in 1937, this is one of Scotland's oldest managed forests, originally created in the 18th century from larch seed brought from the Alps for James Murray, the 2nd Duke of Atholl (1690 - 1764). The Dalguise House activity centre lies on the northeastern margin of the forest. Craigvinean is now managed by Forestry and Land Scotland.
