Loch Uigeadail

A small loch in SE Islay (Argyll & Bute), Loch Uigeadail is located to the northeast of Beinn Sholum, 2¾ miles (4.5 km) north northwest of Ardbeg and 4 miles (6.5 km) northeast of Port Ellen. It extends to 12 ha (29.8 acres). The loch provides the peaty water for Ardbeg Distillery and gives its name to the Ardbeg Uigeadail a high-strength special vatting of Ardbeg whisky which is said to retain maximum flavour, with more body and added depth. The loch is also noted for its trout fishing.
