The island of Pabay is located in the Inner Sound, off the northeast coast of the Isle of Skye, 2½ miles (4 km) north of the settlement of Broadford. Covering an area of 122 ha (301 acres), this uninhabited island was once covered in woodland, although it has been subsequently cleared and is now used for agriculture. Once overrun by rabbits, the introduction of myxomatosis has decimated their population. Pabay means priest island, in respect to its importance in early Scottish Christianity. Pabay is one of the few British islands licensed to issue its own postage stamps.
