Macedonia

A sizeable public housing estate which forms a residential district (or precinct) of Glenrothes (Fife), Macedonia lies to the south of the River Leven, a mile (1.7 km) west of the town centre. Leslie lies on the opposite bank of the river. It takes its name from a farmstead which once lay at the extreme south of the area, while its street names are inspired by the towns and villages of the South of Scotland (Ancrum, Ayton, Carfrae, Denholm, Dunbar, Earlston, Ednam, Ettrick, Garvald, Greenlaw, Haddington, Langholm, Lauder, Linton, Marchmont, Minto and Roxburgh). Its population was recorded as 2530 in 1994. Facilities, including a library and post office are provided in the rather shabby Glenwood Centre, while Southwood Primary School (1964) is located in the centre of the district and Glenwood High School (1961) to the southwest.
