Nerston

A peripheral district of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, Nerston lies between Calderwood and Stewartsfield, 1¼ miles (2 km) north of the town centre. The hamlet from which it takes its name lies a half-mile (1 km) to the north. Rolls Royce opened a large plant at Nerston in 1953 designing and manufacturing aero-engines, with the Tay jet engine developed here. This plant was soon joined by several other ventures, forming a large industrial estate.
