A summit, on the boundary of Dumfries & Galloway and Scottish Borders Council Areas, Black Edge rises to 446m (1463 feet) overlooking the minor road which connects Newcastleton and Langholm, 3 miles (5 km) northwest of the former and 4½ miles (7 km) northeast of the latter. Behind, Cooms Fell rises further to 490m (1607 feet).
