The Royal Oak

A small bar located on Infirmary Street in Edinburgh, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) south of Princes Street, the Royal Oak is a long-established public house which has become the centre for folk-singing in the city. It has also found fame as a location in the Inspector Rebus novels of Ian Rankin (b.1960). Comprising two small drinking areas, the Public Bar above and the Lounge Bar downstairs, both cramped and always full especially given the Royal Oak's late-night opening.
