The larger of a pair of islets off the NW coast of Scotland, Eilean Furadh Mor (Fura) lies to the west of the entrance to Loch Ewe, 1½ miles (2.5 km) northwest of Cove. It reaches a height of 23m / 75 feet and extends to 10.8 ha / 26.7 acres. The liberty ship SS William H. Welch ran aground here while trying to navigate into the loch on 26th February 1944. Only twelve of its crew of 74 survived.
