A small reservoir built on the middle reaches of the Kelly Burn on the border between Inverclyde and North Ayrshire Council Areas, the Kelly Reservoir is located 2 miles (3 km) east of Wemyss Bay and 5½ miles (9 km) southwest of Greenock. It is impounded by an earth embankment dam and covers an area of 6.1 ha (15 acres). Authorised by an Act of Parliament in 1845 as an extension of Robert Thom's scheme to supply water to Greenock, the reservoir feeds the system through an aqueduct known as the Kelly Cut. It is now operated by Scottish Water.
