West End

An ill-defined district of W Central Edinburgh, lying between Haymarket and Princes Street, the West End is centred on Shandwick Place which is the western extension of the latter. Coates, to the north and west, was laid out in the 1820s, while the development around Rutland Square to the south followed in the 1830s. A stop on the Edinburgh Tram Line opened in 2014 and is referred to as West End - Princes Street.
