(Gearastan Matilda)

A busy commuter railway station serving the west of Greenock, Fort Matilda (known in Gaelic as Gearastan Matilda) is situated on the Inverclyde Line, 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of the town centre and a half-mile (1 km) east northeast of Gourock. This station was opened in 1889 when the Caledonian Railway extended their Greenock line to Gourock. Now operated by ScotRail, Fort Matilda Railway Station is unstaffed and is used by around 130,000 passengers per annum (2015). The station buildings have been used by the Greenock & District Model Railway Club since 2011. It is preceded by Greenock West Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the southeast, and followed by Gourock, a mile (1.5 km) to the west northwest.
