Cally Castle

(Cally House)

A ruined tower house in Cally Park, a half-mile (0.8 km) south of Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, Cally Castle (also recorded as Cally House) lies on the west bank of Cally Lake. Built in the 16th century, it once rose to four storeys and was defended by a moat.

The castle was replaced by the House of Cally (now the Cally Palace Hotel) in 1763, but retained as a folly, although it now comprises only a solitary wall. The lands here were the property of the Stewart family in the 13th century, but later passed to the Murrays.
