A modest river of NE South Lanarkshire, the West Water rises between Bleak Law and Darlees Rig at the southwestern end of the Pentland Hills. It flows southeast for 2½ miles (4 km) to join the Medwin Water a short distance west of Garvald. This river should not be confused with the more significant river located 2 miles (3 km) to the northeast.
