Scone Palace Pinetum

Located next to Scone Palace, the pinetum offers woodland walks passing fine examples of North American coniferous trees such as Sitka Spruce, Wellingtonia (Giant Redwood) and noble fir. A remarkable Douglas Fir was grown from seed sent home in 1826 by noted explorer and plant-hunter David Douglas (1799 - 1834). A David Douglas Pavilion opened nearby in 2008 to celebrate the Scottish plant hunters and the pinetum still undertakes a programme of propagation and planting.
