Heishival Beg

(Heiseabhal Beag, Theiseabhal Beag)

A hill on the island of Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides, Heishival Beg (Gael: Heiseabhal or Theiseabhal Beag) rises to 172m (564 feet) a half-mile (1 km) east southeast of Heishival More. Together, the pair occupy much of the northern section of the island. An RAF Catalina flying boat, on a training mission from its base in Oban, crashed here in 1944 killing three of its crew of nine. A memorial marks the spot and wreckage can still be seen close to the road which curves around the hill.
