A hill standing above Gourock in Inverclyde, Tower Hill rises to 92m (301 feet) a quarter-mile (0.5 km) south southwest of the town centre. Previously known as Drumshantie Hill, the tower which now gives the hill its name was built in 1847 to provide a dramatic outlook over the Firth of Clyde.
A copper-mine was sunk behind the hill in 1780 while the substantial Craigmuschat Quarry, on its eastern slopes, produced whinstone from the later 19th century. It closed in the late 20th century and became a land-fill site, but is now fully restored. A sizeable anti-aircraft battery was located on the hill during World War II but no evidence of it remains.
