Calvay

(Calbhaigh)

The small island of Calvay (Gael: Calbhaigh) lies at the mouth of Loch Boisdale, a sealoch of South Uist in the Western Isles. Extending to 11.4 ha (38 acres), the island rises to 23m (75 feet) and a lighthouse stands on its east coast, while the remains of a castle are located on the northwest shore. Another island named Calvay lies in the Sound of Eriskay to the south. There is another Calvay at the head of Loch Eynort, just 7 miles (11 km) to the north northwest.
