Cumbernauld Glen

(Cumbernauld Glen Nature Reserve)

A little wooded valley lying to the east of Cumbernauld Village in North Lanarkshire, Cumbernauld Glen contains the Bog Stank. Once part of the policies of Cumbernauld House, the area adjoins Cumbernauld House Park. Cumbernauld Glen Nature Reserve was established with much larger boundaries, including Crow Wood and extending along the Red Burn to Dunn Wood in the north and connecting with Forest Wood Nature Reserve to the south. The reserve is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, who were responsible for the 2008 restoration of the 17th C. doocot which lies within the glen. Cumbernauld Glen is part of the Cumbernauld Living Landscapes project, which aims to enhance, restore and reconnect green areas of the town in partnership with the community and led by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, North Lanarkshire Council and Forestry Commission Scotland.
