Fog Bell

Once located at the seaward end of the North Breakwater of Aberdeen Harbour, the Fog Bell was used to warn vessels they were approaching the harbour entrance. Cast by John Warner & Sons of London in 1889 the bell served until 2001 when it was replaced by an electronic sounder. When the new Marine Operations Centre was completed in 2006, the bell was re-sited in an embayment in the security fence as a tourist attraction.
