Fetlar Nature Reserve

Fetlar Nature Reserve occupies the Mires of Funzie, next to the Loch of Funzie, in the east of the island of Fetlar (Shetland), the whole which has been designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA). This is the most northerly reserve managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, who provide a warden and bird-watching hide. Exceptionally rare Red-necked Phalaropes (Phalaropus lobatus) make use of the neighbouring Loch of Funzie and breed here. Other birds which can be seen here include red-throated divers, golden plovers, skuas and wild rock doves.
