Stirling Livestock Centre is located at Millhall on the edge of Stirling, next to the former Polmaise Colliery, 1¼ miles (2 km) southeast of the city centre. It is owned and operated by Caledonian Marts Ltd., which was formed as a farmers' co-operative in 1962 and began trading on this site the following year. The co-operative grew to more than 3000 shareholders, but facing debt problems was sold in 2015 to the Gilvear brothers, well-known livestock farmers in the Stirling area. The company has continued trading in much the same way as before, with a group of farmer-directors covering a wide range of livestock production and other agricultural practices.
All classes of livestock are sold here, including prime cattle, store cattle, breeding cattle, sheep, lambs and calves, with sales taking place three times per week. Caledonian Marts also operate the Oban Livestock Centre.
