Loch of Forfar

Situated on the western outskirts of the Angus burgh town of Forfar, Forfar Loch forms the focal point of a 38 ha (93-acre) country park with a leisure centre at its eastern end. Much reduced by drainage in the 18th-century, it was bought by the town in 1953. St Margaret's Inch, now occupied by a sailing club, was once the site of a prehistoric crannog and local tradition suggests that a chapel of the Holy Trinity was founded there by Queen Margaret in the 11th century. The Dean Water flows westwards out of the Loch of Forfar.
