Cnoc Rhaonastil

A hill on the SE coast of the island of Islay in Argyll and Bute, Cnoc Rhaonastil rises steeply to just 109m (357 feet), overlooking Ardilistry Bay and Loch a' Chnuic, 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Ardbeg. A flagstaff once stood on its summit, which is now marked by an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar. On its slopes are the grave on English traveller John Talbot Clifton (1868 - 1928), who lived for a time at nearby Kildalton Castle.
