Mindork Fell

A low but broad summit which rises to 93m (305 feet) within plantation forest in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, Mindork Fell is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) south southwest of Kirkcowan. It gives its name to a significant geological formation of Silurian greywackes, siltstones and mudstones which has its reference section here but occurs across Southern Scotland. This is interpreted as a turbidite, deposited in the deep ocean about 440 million years ago.
