One of the Lowther Hills on the border of South Lanarkshire and Dumfries & Galloway, Whiteside rises to 572m (1876 feet) on the northwestern flank of Lowther Hill itself, a mile (1.5 km) southeast of Wanlockhead. The Southern Upland Way crosses its western slopes. Confusingly another summit named Whiteside Hill, of similar height, also lies on the border between the same council areas 8 miles (13 km) to the southeast.
