Carn Dearg

A lofty top on the northeastern shoulder of Ben Nevis in the Lochaber district of Highland Council Area, Carn Dearg rises to 1221m (4005 feet) a half-mile (1 km) northeast of summit of the Ben and 3 miles (5 km) east southeast of Fort William. Confusingly, although perhaps not surprisingly given that the name simply means "red hill" in Gaelic, there is another Carn Dearg at 1020m (3346 feet) only 1¼ miles (2 km) to the south southwest and, on the opposite side of the Ben, are Carn Mor Dearg, Carn Dearg Meadhonach and Carn Beag Dearg.
