Rising on the eastern slopes of the Hill of Wirren in NE Angus Council Area, the Burn of Mooran flows east for 4 miles (6.5 km), joined by the Muckle Burn of Kirlie to the west of The Crannel (291m / 954 feet), before emptying into the River North Esk, 3 miles (5 km) north of Edzell.
