Bridge over the River Bladnoch at Bladnoch

A river of Dumfries and Galloway, the Bladnoch rises in Loch Maberry in Kirkcowan Parish to the west of Newton Stewart and flows generally southeastwards, across The Machars, before entering Wigtown Bay just south of Wigtown having completed a course of 25 miles (40 km). The river provides popular recreational fishing for salmon, brown trout, pike, perch and roach. The fish population is managed by the Galloway Fisheries Trust and Atlantic salmon are protected through the designation of the river as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
