Margadale River

A rivulet in the north of the island of Islay, Argyll and Bute, the Margadale River forms from headstreams in limestone to the southwest Margadale Hill and flows east southeast, passing the abandoned settlement of Margadale, to fall into the Sound of Islay immediately to the north of Bunnahabhainn. Its length is 2 miles (3.4 km) and its main tributary is the Abhainn Araig from the south, which joins just a quarter-mile (0.4 km) from its end. The Margadale River provides the water for Bunnahabhain Distillery. A 2012 survey showed the river supports occasional brown trout and salmon.
