One of a group of small lochs in S Dumfries and Galloway, Barean Loch is located on the edge of the Dalbeattie Forest, ¾ mile (1.2 km) northwest of Colvend and 1½ miles (2.5 km) east northeast of Kippford. It extends to 9.3 ha (23 acres). Clonyard Loch lies immediately to the southwest.
