The Canal

A stream in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, The Canal forms as field drains to the east of Culbae and flows north northeast towards Barnbarroch, where it becomes part of the landscape designed by John Claudius Loudon (1783 - 1843) in the early 19th C. Loudon expanded the stream to form an ornamental lake in front of the house. To the east of Barnbarroch, The Canal becomes the Maltkin Burn, having completed a course of 2 miles (3 km).
