An effluent of Wester Ross, the River Elchaig emerges from Loch na Leitreach and flows west northwest through Glen Elchaig, gathering a number of tributaries including the Allt a' Ghlomaich, to enter the head of Loch Long next to the River Ling, a half-mile (1 km) west of Killilan, having completed a course of 5 miles (8 km).
