Goat Fell, Arran

Rising to a height of 874m (2866 feet), Goatfell (occasionally Goat Fell) is the highest peak on the island of Arran. Classified as a Corbett, its summit lies 4 miles (6 km) north of the settlement of Brodick and is marked by an Ordnance Survey primary triangulation pillar installed 1948-49. Access for walkers is via Brodick Country Park or from Cladach on the A841 Brodick-Lochranza road. The remnants of a volcano dating from the Tertiary period some 60 million years ago, Goatfell and the neighbouring mountainous countryside were gifted in 1958 to the National Trust for Scotland by Lady Jean Fforde, daughter of Mary, Duchess of Montrose.
