Glen Harris

(Gleann na Hearadh)

A valley on Rum in the Inner Hebrides, the largest valley on the island, Glen Harris extends west from Atlantic Corrie, below the peak of Askival, to the southwest coast of the island, 4 miles (6.5 km) southeast of A' Bhrideanach. The name is anglicised from the Gaelic word 'thairis' meaning 'across', as the valley cuts most of the way across the island, but is retranslated into Gaelic as Gleann na Hearadh. The largely-abandoned settlement of Harris is located at its seaward end.
