A shallow but extensive loch in the northwest of Islay, in the Inner Hebrides, Loch Gorm lies 12½ miles (20 km) east of Port Askaig, in flat land towards the north of the Rhinns of Islay. At 272 ha (672 acres) in size, this is by far the largest body of fresh water on the island. It receives the Allt na Criche and River Leoig, and is drained by the Allt na Criche and Saligo River. Loch Gorm contains several islets, the largest being Eilean nan Eun and Eilean Mor, the latter was the site of Loch Gorm Castle.
