Dun Mor Ghil

(Dùn Mòr Ghil)

Dun Mor Ghil is a summit at the centre of a centre of a barely-accessible headland on the remote Oa peninsula in the south of the island Islay (Argyll and Bute). It rises to 53m (174 feet) from the sea and also presents precipitous slopes to its landward side. An ancient hill-fort once occupied this naturally-defensive site and evidence of a wall which now reaches only 40 cm (16 inches) in height and is topped with turf. There was an entrance passage through a deep fissure in a rock scarp to the southeast. Inside are two small level terraces linked by rock-cut steps.
