Eilean Mhic Mhaolmhoire

A small uninhabited island lying just off the SE coast of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, Eilean Mhic Mhaolmhoire is located a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Kildalton Castle. It is attached to the shore at low tide and splits into two parts at high tide. Extending to an area of 10.4 ha (25.7 acres) and reaching a height of 11m (36 feet) above sea level, its long narrow shape defined by its geology; long narrow lenses of quartzite, psammite and ancient amphibolite intrusions, all metamorphosed and of Pre-Cambrian age.
